Discussion of web design in companies who don’t know the power of landing pages still often focuses on the home page. But savvy companies know that custom landing pages are essential to maximise conversion of leads when using inbound marketing techniques like SEO, AdWords and social media to drive visitors to a site.

So this prompts the question, which factors make for the most effective landing page? Is a ‘Perfect Landing Page’ possible? This post gives a summary of my top 12 tips and places to look to find more examples.

Salesforce.com – an example of the evolution of the Perfect Landing Page?

To illustrate these tips, I’m going to use an example I’ve used in training many years – it’s the B2B Salesforce.com lead generation page for its CRM service targeting searchers who are looking for CRM systems.

The Salesforce.com landing pages illustrate many good practices. I’ve marked up what I see as good about this format. It’s maybe not perfect, but much better than most! Let me know what you don’t like about it! Or how things differ for consumer sites! This is the original ‘classic’ landing page example that I used to use in training. It shows many good practices, but has one big problem.

However, there is a problem with this type of landing page, and you can probably spot it! It’s not mobile responsive, so isn’t effective on Smartphone. So today we see a much longer-form landing page…

In email marketing, there are so many different ways to communicate with your client. But which are the most popular? And if they are popular, does that mean they are correct?

In today’s chart, it is unsurprising that most use newsletters at 74%. This is a simple way of keeping clients up to date with news or content and has been an email marketing standard for many years. However, some simple additions to your communications strategy could make dramatic differences. For instance, having a multi-step automation for new subscribers/customers, reactivation emails and automated triggers through a client’s lifecycle require a bit maintenance, but only 26%, 10% and 18% of the users surveyed actually use these in their strategy.

More and more online marketers and business owners are seeing the light and recognising the tremendous benefits of incorporating multimedia into their online marketing strategy. Psychology of Color to Increase Website Conversions

Color wields enormous sway over our attitudes and emotions. When our eyes take in a color, they communicate with a region of the brain known as the hypothalamus, which in turn sends a cascade of signals to the pituitary gland, on to the endocrine system, and then to the thyroid glands. The thyroid glands signal the release of hormones, which cause fluctuation in mood, emotion, and resulting behavior.

Research from QuickSprout indicates that 90% of all product assessments have to do with color. “Color,” writes Neil Patel, is “85% of the reason you purchased a specific product.” It’s a no-brainer fact of any website that color affects conversions. Big time.

So, the bottom line is: use the right colors, and you win.

What is Color Psychology?

In order to really appreciate the tips below, you’ll benefit from a little information on color psychology.

Color psychology is the science of how color affects human behavior. Color psychology actually is a branch of the broader field of behavioral psychology.
